Hydrostatic Testing for Subsea Equipment

Verify the integrity of subsea equipment before mobilization: tests in our own hyperbaric chamber, with technical reports and local-lab turnaround.

Description

Abyss operates in Niterói (RJ, Brazil) a hyperbaric chamber with three pressure vessels of different sizes, capable of simulating up to 3,000 m of water column (~4,500 psi). Hydrostatic testing proves the leak-tightness and structural integrity of subsea equipment before mobilization, reducing the risk of failure in operation and offshore rework costs.

The service covers the full cycle: definition of the pressure profile and holds with the client, assembly and instrumentation of the item, test execution with continuous recording, and issuance of a technical report with pressure curves and acceptance criteria. Local infrastructure eliminates dependence on overseas laboratories and shortens lead times from days to hours.

Service scope

  • Subsea electrical and optical connectors, penetrators and moldings.
  • Housings for cameras, lights, sensors and embedded electronics.
  • Pressure vessels, junction boxes and compensation bottles.
  • ROV equipment and subsea intervention tooling.
  • Custom pressure profiles with holds and repeated cycles.
  • Tests witnessed by the client or by a certification body.

Frequently asked questions

What is the maximum simulated depth?
The Abyss hyperbaric chamber simulates up to 3,000 m of water column, equivalent to approximately 4,500 psi (310 bar).
What types of equipment can be tested?
Subsea connectors and cables, camera and sensor housings, pressure vessels, junction boxes, ROV tooling and any equipment requiring proof of leak-tightness. Three vessels of different sizes accommodate anything from small connectors to larger equipment.
Does the test produce QA/QC documentation?
Yes. Each test is recorded with a continuous pressure curve and results in a technical report with the agreed acceptance criteria — suitable for quality dossiers and certification requirements.
